The main character, Cassandra, was an well-written, complex woman, but overall this book felt very slow. The author does a fantastic job sustaining a sense of dread and foreboding throughout the book, but the "big reveal" doesn't quite deliver a payoff equal to the build up. While the world of this book is richly developed, it felt like the author fell back on cliches or obvious plot twists a bit too often. Also, I found Cassandra's twins to be very annoying and didn't see how her interactions with them moved the plot forward or told us anything new about her as a character. Not a bad read, but if I hadn't been listening to this one on my commute, I probably wouldn't have finished it.
