I read this book when I was eight and the size didn't put me off. The first story is about how three children, Joe, Beth and Franny, come across an Enchanted Forest where they meet lot's of interesting characters. The most exciting part of the Faraway Tree, however, is how a new Land appears at it's top every so often, where the children and their new friends have many adventures.

The second and third book are more or less the same, with the introduction of cousin Rick in book two and Connie in book three, neither of them beleiving the other's tales until they see it for themselves. A fantastic read for all ages, although it may seem old-fashioned (the first story was published in 1939) but nonetheless it's great for those who want adventure and fantasy.
