Grades 5-8. RL 690. I typically hate books with second-person narration-- but it worked with this book and I loved it! These are the Grimm tales Disney couldn't touch. With all the bloody, gory, terrible parts left in. I recognized a lot of the tales that were woven in along with motifs from common tales. All of the stories were tied together by the characters Hansel and Gretel. Fingers get cut off, heads get cut off, beasts are filleted, cannibalism is rampant. And it's beautiful. The storytelling, that is. And as with most tales, it DOES have a happy ending. But you have to go through all the gross and terrible parts to get there. Give this to your scary book lovers and fairy tale enthusiasts. 4.5 stars
