I thought Heart of the Sea was one of the most unbelievable pieces of writing that i have ever had the pleasure of reading. I could not put it down. It takes place on a place called Nantucket way back when whaling was a big buisness. Whalers would go out for about two years on whaling expeditions catching whales and making them into oil. Whale oil back then was what ran the town of Nantucket. A big whale ship called the Essex sailed out on what was a routine whaling expedition but disaster struck while they were in the middle of the ocean. A huge whale rammed and sunk their ship. About 20 men crammed into three small whale boats. All they could save from the wreckage was some bread and water. Once the three whale ship regrouped they figured they were about three thousand miles off the coast. And that they were about five hundred miles away from the nearest island. But for fear of cannibals they desided they would take the three thousand mile voyage instead. With little food and a lot of mouths to feed they had no idea how they were going to make it. These twenty men went on the ride of their life. what started out with 20 some men ended with 8.

I would for sure recommend this book. It was exciting and it was a endge of your seat thriller. This true story of twenty some men and their struggles to survive shows how far man will go to survive.
