As for me, I hated Eric and his fake smile, 'cause Heath never been rude to Zoey... before Stark appears in her life, of course. And as for him, I found Stark SO ANNOYING! He is not selfish, but... Heath is funny and alive. Stark is dramatic and boring.

i shall explain my reasoning then. hmm... i don't really remember the first book, but i never thought that Eric's smiles were fake, or that he was fake. i didn't love him. i just liked him. he was okay. Heath though, annoyed the crap out of me (not literally =P). As I read the rest of the books, Eric started to annoy me too, and Heath continued to get on my nerves to the point where i didn't just want to hit him any more, i wanted to just get rid of him completely. At no point did i find him funny or alive, i actually thought of him as one of those really dull characters trying to be someone he's not. I mean, he's a good guy, so i can't hate him, but he just really, really, really annoys me. Weird how i can say i don't hate him, but then scream "Die!" in my head when his character appears. Everyone in this series annoys me. The one that least bugs me is Stark. =) guess we're opposites then.

Heath was trying to be cooler than he really was, but that fact has one good explanation. How would you react on Zoey's behaviour? She broke up with him after she became a vampire, though she didn't even ask him if he wanted that too. Of course, Heath was trying to tell his girlfriend that it was OK, but Zoey was like "another annoying message from Heath... Oh, he's a jerk". What normal girl would do that?
