Let me preface this review by saying that I really like Dostoevsky, and I loved The Brothers Karamazov.

That said: my problem is how long this story took to get moving. I understand the need for set up and to show the depth and complication of relationships between characters, however it was incredibly difficult to push through far enough into the book for it to feel like I was making any real progress on the story. Out of nearly 700 pages, it wasn't until around page 500 that it truly got exciting, which is unfortunate given his skill as an author. I did care for a few of the characters, and by the end I liked it, but this book felt more like work than Karamazov, so unfortunately it lost some of the rating.
