I did not the idea of Pratchett and Gaiman writing a book together. Don't get me wrong, its not like I dion't like their writing, its just that combining the two of them did not work for. Its more like I only like certain books/topic along with certain humor of Pratchett.

Melissa I'm not a big fan of co-written books to begin with ... I like reading ONE author's voice, not multiples.

Trice I think if I had read both of them before reading Good Omens I might have had the same reaction, but coming to it with only a bit of Pratchett under my belt I loooooooooved it. I've reread it countless times now and still laugh hysterically and see a depth to some of their perceptions about people and ultimate reality. And at this point I've read a lot of Gaiman as well as Pratchett.

Melissa Trice -- where you recommend starting with Pratchett's work? I've never read any of his books, but I always hear that they're great. It's overwhelming to choose a first book when an author has so many to choose from! As for Gaiman, I've only read Coraline, which I adored, yet it also gave me the chills.

Trice It's hard to say - not sure there's an absolute best place to start - you could almost start anywhere in the series. My first encounter with the Discworld was actually a university production of the Wyrd Sisters play, and then I picked up Lords and Ladies, which follows very nicely - these 2 might be a good place to start. The first books in the series (The Light Fantastic and The Color of Magic) are fun but not as good (IMHO) as some of the later ones - they're a bit more on the ridiculous side of his sense of humor so it might be harder to start there, but that kind of depends on your sense of humor :). My favorites in that series are probably Soul Music and Night Watch though I'm not sure if those are the best to start with. And actually 3 of my favorites of his aren't in the Discworld series and you can read whenever: The Johnny Maxwell Trilogy.

...And since we're hanging out on Kevin's review, gotta ask if Kevin has a clearer recommendation than I do???

Oh, and regarding Neil Gaiman, I have committed the travesty of being a Gaiman fan w/o actually reading his Sandman graphic novels, for which he's well known. But I've really enjoyed his novels Neverwhere, American Gods, and Stardust. Coraline was a little too creepy for me, and he's good at creepy. :)

Melissa Thanks for the suggestions! And more books for my TBR list (sigh) =)

And I agree: Kevin, what are your suggestions?
