This is a suspenseful, exciting story set in the not too distant dystopian future. Nailer, a tough teenager, lives on the beach of the gulf coast and dismantles discarded oil tankers for recycling. While searching for food following a hurricane, he finds a wrecked sailing boat that hints of riches he will never know and starts him on a path to a new life.

This is a great book for fans of the Chaos Walking series, or the Hunger Games series. It is beautifully written and so fast paced! Very deserving of the Printz Award, it has well developed characters and some original ideas about a future with limited fossil fuels. Looking forward to a sequel to this book.
