Incarceron (Incarceron, #1)
by Catherine Fisher
by Catherine Fisher
Listened to this one on audio with Kim Mai Guest as a reader. Her straight narration is strong, but her faux-British accents for dialogue are distracting and sometimes annoying.
I liked the book enough to finish it in a single week, but I doubt I'll go on to the sequels anytime soon. This is a book I really should like -- it has so many of the elements I ordinarily enjoy -- but it just seemed overstuffed with characters and prophecies.
My favorite scenes were with Claudia when she lived outside of Incarceron -- I love the idea of the "Era" and the character interaction there was strong and direct -- but whenever the story shifted to Finn, my attention flagged. Not a good thing, I suppose, for a book focusing on the inhabitants of the living prison. Great concepts individually but, put together, they didn't mix as well as I'd hoped.

You've pretty much summed up my every issue with this book. I ought to have liked it, but I just... didn't.
