This was a hard book to rate for me. In the end, I went for the low score because I found it bleak. I don't mind a little bleakness in a novel, as long as in the end there's some sort of moral, lesson-learned, turn-around - a Bleak House kind of bleakness. This isn't that kind of bleakness. I don't think this author has any sympathy for women at all. I hated most of the characters. It's at times uncomfortably vulgar. Yes, he's an engaging writer. Yes, he's good at connecting the story to the current social/political climate. The end message I got from it though was that people can't handle freedom and their actions are defined by their genetics and upbringing. Bleak.

Shannon I'm thinking I'll avoid this one. ;)

Shareen I can think of few books I'd be less likely to recommend to you than this one :)

Shannon haha, I'm not exactly broad minded and adventurous, am I?

Shareen Really, you could take that more like a compliment.
