This book is a mix of facts and fiction. I like how the author catches the reader’s attention by talking directly to them in the text. The illustrations are a bit busy for me and much of the book relies on the pictures to tell the story as a wordless book. The back inside cover does have informational facts about the first hot air balloon. I see this as a cute story though, I think with the busyness of the illustrations it will be passed over even by students. Caldecott 2006 Honor book
