Well, Nora Roberts is just such a great writer that she can carry off just about anything. This book, the first in a trilogy, is a sort of fantasy. It is the story of three young woman "hired" to find the three keys to unlock the souls of three young women born of a union of a god and a mortal. Unlike most fantasies, though, it is grounded in this world, with occasional flights "beyond the curtain" into a magical world of Celtic gods and goddesses. At times, the leap is a little hard to make. But most of the time, you transition smoothly because curiousity just gets the better of you. It's not the best in terms of characters (a little stock, except for the primary magical couple, Rowena and Pitte) and theme (finding love and truth - a little time worn). Still, the leaps into magic were just irresistible enough to make me want to see it through (and maybe even read the other two books!) The romance was a bit too much for me, but then I'm not generally a fan of the bodice ripper scene, except when done with humor like Evanovich. Well, in conclusion, it is an interesting read if you like magic and especially if you like to think that maybe there is a little magic lurking below the surface of our everyday existence.
