really liked it
bookshelves: fantasy

The story of how the Bitterbynde trilogy came to be published is just as interesting as the author's life (see her website), a foundling reared amongst a bunch of brothers by a lighthouse keeper. She uses, perhaps overmuch but very entertainingly, the device of listing things and often in arcane ancient language, too many words to even consider looking up (maybe by the third reading). My daughter says this is my second reading, but actually I had forgotten most of the details and was delighted to read them. I also loved all the old Celtic tales woven into the plot, sometimes stories told within the book, sometimes as happenings.
