Dark alternate-history/reality WW2 novel with Nazi super humans and British warlocks. The price of magic is terribly high as is the cost of experimentation (in human lives) to produce a "superman." An interesting explanation of magic. Terrific British-WW2 home-front feel to the book. Gray/fuzzy lines around the "good guys" and "bad guys" and what they will do to further their aims or limit the aims of the enemy. A feeling of truth in the ugly price each side is willing to pay.
