I must've picked this book up and put it down every single time I visited our local bookstore for the past year. Something about it caught my eye, but never enough to warrant spending the money to purchase it in hardcover. Then I made a trip to my favorite used bookstore and found a hardcover copy for just a couple of bucks. That sealed the deal.

Once I'd gotten about fifty pages in, I realized that this is a book that I usually wouldn't enjoy -- it's gritty, dark, violent. It's essentially pulp fiction, and while that would've appealed to me fifteen years ago, I'm not so much a fan anymore (I've wimped out in my old age). But still, there was something about it that kept me reading along. It's unlikely that I'll be checking out the sequel, though. This was enough pulp to last me for a few years at least.
