really liked it
bookshelves: sci-fi, ya, series
Read from June 30 to July 10, 2011

This book comes with a wide variety of recommendations from lots of people I know. I finally broke down and read it along with my eldest son during his Summer Reading requirement. I have to say it was very good. I know about the violence and the strong themes inside, so I was not surprised by the content. Throughout the book I kept having Running Man with Arnold S. and Richard Dawson flashbacks, though their dialogue was a bit snappier than the books. The characters were well written and likable, though I did have issues with Katniss NOT knowing about Peeta's feelings for her. I mean c'mon!!! I guess in hindsight, maybe an awareness of feelings and the touchy feely aspects of life aren't that as important as trying to survive.

I'm looking forward to book 2. Hopefully I can find it soon in the library, but the waiting list is in the 100's. That must mean it's good?
