This was a unique book in the mystery genre. It deals with a highly secret branch of the government that protects people in danger. The people in danger are "principals", the protectors are "shepherds",
the bad guys are "lifters", and the people who hire the lifters are"primaries". The lifters are trying to get information for the primary from the principal. This often involves threats to the family or other loved ones, and torture to gain the needed information. There were many plot twists and this made for enthsiastic reading. It was a very enjoyable read.
