Booky Wook 2: This Time It's Personal
by Russell Brand
by Russell Brand
I don't know if it's the fact that I'm a fan of Russell Brand 'the man', but as soon as this book became available in my library I decided to take it out.
Now normally I look down on people who feel it necessary to release two autobiographies within five years but for some reason I felt this was an exception.
Sadly I don't think it was as good as My Booky Wook; which as an autobiography should, included everything a fan would want to know. This book however, is more about Brand's catapult into stardom and I think anyone other than a Brand fan would find it tasking to read.
I'm a lover of Brand's personal writing style and I think that's what really got me to the end. I didn't feel as though the book really engaged me, well, it did, but only because Russell has such a way with words I find myself unknowingly drawn to them. If it weren't for his undeniable intelligence this book would be rubbish, but I find it works for him.
It were as if I were listening to an old friend tell me about their recent life. It's his colloquialism that I enjoy; it's so frequently left out of autobiographies. I'd recommend it as a read, there are a few laughs and it's enjoyable. Closer to four stars than to three :)
