Liked this better than the Chrestomanci book by her. A wonderful youth fantasy that could be good as a read-aloud. A man has recently moved into an estate that his grandfather owned and where strange things happen. Like the vegetable garden that grows unnaturally huge vegetables. Or the food that gets left on the roof of a shed that mysteriously disappears every night. Professor Hope knows that there is some sort of magic at work, but doesn't always believe it. Then a boy shows up at his doorstep whose grandmother just died and who she told to come to this estate if something ever happened to her. Clever, funny, mysterious, fantastical.
