Barely had a cracked open the covers of the book when verily laughter did ring forth until my sides ached with pain.

That's actually true. I laughed long and hard several times while reading this book.

You don't have to be a fan of any particular game, genre or console to find Penny Arcade amusing. As long as you understand the culture it's usually pretty easy to get the joke and if you don't get it from the comic itself you can usually get it from the accompanying commentary. There are definitely some gems.

I like the book even better for those tantalizing glimpses of the author and illustrator's real lives. It was touching to see Jerry worrying about becoming a dad and reading about poor Mike suffering from TMJ. The paragraphs about their friendship always leave me wanting more information.

Four and a half stars.
