After doing a marathon read of both this and its prequel (“Past Midnight”), I felt refreshed and relaxed. This is a fun little series, and good for stress release (and a good scare!) yet at the same time, it has its own message for the audience to take a little more deeply to heart.

Aside from the teen romance drama and paranormal elements that have become so common within YA fiction as of late, it was really great to see a bit of parodying on the part of the author about all of those paranormal shows where people try to call out the ghosts, and what might happen when people mess with things they really don’t understand. It was reaffirming to see our protagonist state that explicitly, basically calling out all of those other paranormal investigation shows that bother the dead.

Definitely a jolly good ride of a series so far, though. Can’t wait to read the next one!
