really liked it
Read in December, 2002

12/23/2002 - 8/10
good start, well written lots of intrigue. similar to martin (kind of martin-lite) came out before though. political intrigue, characters die, good plots

Series 3/2/2003 - 8/10
Memory, Sorrow and Thorn is a fantasy series somewhat similar to George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series. It's kind of a Martin-lite, but it does get some props for coming out earlier. If I had read this before aSoIaF, I think I would have liked it a lot more. MSaT is well written with good political intrigue and lots of plot twists. The big picture is somewhat predictable, but there are lots of surprises in getting there. The characters are well done, albeit perhaps a little overly lucky. The ending was a little too anti-climactic and a little too pat, but it was a solid series nonetheless.
