Chronicles the founding and work of the Vidocq Society, a detective society created to track down killers who have literally gotten away with murder, some for many, many years. With larger-than-life characters and chilling murders (I kept wishing were fiction) I actually found myself double-checking that this wasn't a novel, but no, it is a true crime tale of monsters and the men and women trying to bring them to justice. There is a selected bibliography but no index, which would have been useful for research.
