TCL Call Number: J Hesse

Written in a sense of poems, this is a fast and heavy book. Billie Jo is fifteen and life during the depression (the 1930's) in Oklahoma is one big dust bowl - dust everywhere - on the food and even on her mother's beloved piano that Billie Jo loves to play. Life is manageable until a terrible accident injures Billie Jo's hands -- her piano hands. But Billie Jo finds a way to help heal herself. A moving book. Newberry Medal Winner, Soaring Eagle and Indian Paintbrush
