I hate covers with half-naked men on them. I just feel weird even looking at them, let alone buying them, so they have to rely on the title to capture my interest and make me read the synopsis at the back of the book (or inside cover if they're feeling mean). This did. I will admit to being a little wary though, I've read Gena's Alien Huntress books, not all but some, as well as a couple of others when they were stand alone novels. One of the things that makes me wary as, with the 'erotica' label, some of the love scenes are well... better off in porn movies rather than books.

The second thing I was wary of, is that she has a tendancy to write her female leads as one of two extremes: Strong-willed, in command, take no prisoners leaders; or submissive, weak and powerless. In this particular novel, it was the latter, and while the verbal sparring between the two leads was highly witty and amusing, sometimes the mental and emotional weakness of not just the heroine, but every female, grated on my nerves and brought my feminist views to the foreground. Granted, the nymphs are supposed to be overtly-sexual and irresistable, but it would have been nice to see just a little more of the women in the novel not so 'brain-washed' and submissive. An example of the heroine's future and indeed the nymph's power over others, from page 18:
However, the few times his men has entered this city in these past weeks, females of every race had remained well hidden, avoiding the nymphs as if they were hideous, foul-smelling demons. None wanted to find themselves enslaved to a nymph's dark, sexual hunger, losing their very identity, wishing only to please their lover. An inevitable outcome. Even for mates. Those females, whomever they happened to be, wherever they happened to be found, were treasured, but they were still enslaved.
I was able to overcome this however, as I said, it only irritated me occasionally, not all the time.

The novel was a good length, although, I do feel that the major climax, which happened only in the last 50 pages, was resolved rather quickly and easily, and was more than a little anti-climatic. I believe the hesitancy of the relationship of the two leads, which was dragged out over more than the first 200 pages, could have been shortened a little, perhaps offering deleted scenes on the website, or the book made longer, so the climax could have had more suspense.

I was also worried about the Earth/Atlantis differences. The male lead was over 600 according to Atlantis time, while the female lead was only mid-20's. Knowing that humans are lucky to live to a hundred, and have the age to show it, I was constantly wondering if anyone had explained the human aging process to the nymphs, and as the novel drew towards the end, was increasingly worried that this would not be mentioned at all. In the end it was, again in only the last few chapters, and I feel it would have been better perhaps, a little earlier on, as it made the whole concept of nymphs mating for life rather bittersweet if humans still continued to age normally in Atlantis and would be dead in less than a century of meeting.

I do wish this novel had delved a little deeper into the animosities between the nymphs and certain other races, as, like I said, everything seemed resolved so quickly and easily.
There was also, unlike the last book I reviewed, an abundance of character development for all characters, and relationships were mended where they never thought to be.

Overall I found the book quite enjoyable, and I would probably read it again, although it's more likely that I would read other books in the series.
Either way, I would recommended it, and give it a rating of 4/5 because, despite the inner-feminisit bristling now and then, the plot was well thought out, and in the end, despite the speed of it, it was resolved with a happy ending for all.
