I had started to work with my son using this book and have now decided to stop using it. It isn't due to the book at all. In fact, I think the method is a great idea. I just think that my 4 year old (due to be 5 in a few months) should be given time to breath, play, and be a child. I didn't attend Kindergarten, and when I first attended First Grade, I didn't even know English. I managed due to the abundant space in my brain at such a young age. I am glad my parents gave me more time to play as a child, to be me. School became too stressful later on and I lost my imagination fairly quickly.

I would recommend this book because I know it works. Maybe there are better ways to teach children to read, I don't know... but I do know that my son did learn everything we went over fairly easily. I tried to keep it fun, and had a lot of positive feedback to offer him to keep him going. Maybe we'll be picking it up when he's a little older. We'll see.

If you are going to use this book, just be encouraging, and have patience. I think this is the number one thing I see from parents/teachers/etc. who say they don't think their children like it. Don't focus on the mistakes. Allow your children to love reading. I would hate reading too if my parents were losing their patience while teaching me this science that will be with me for life.
