This book is a page turner. I wanted to say that before I gave my criticisms. I read it in two days and I look forward to reading the next.
However, Tempe’s habit of at times investigating the crime by herself annoyed me, especially when she went in the dark to a lonely place to search for a grave. This did not add to the story. It would have been more realistic and made the story stronger if she had waited to daylight and told someone where she was going. The police don’t believe it’s a serial killer for so long it stretched the credibility of the story and seemed contrived to provide confrontation between the police and Tempe. After a while this became tedious. As did the fact that no-one ever seemed to answer their phones. They always seemed to be out. Then of course there was the obligatory thunderstorm during the final confrontation with the killer. However, the killer lived and was sent to receive justice in jail. It wasn’t the killer died and tidy ending of the story that some books have, so that strengthened the ending. I guess it also leaves open the possibility of the killer escaping and coming after Tempe again in a later story.
