The Rangers Apprentice book #3
Captured
Have you ever been banned from a club, or school ,or felt like an outcast? In The Icebound Land, book three in the Ranger’s Apprentice Series by John Flanagan, a ranger named Halt assigned to the castle of Redmont gets himself banned so he can be relieved of duty and search for his apprentice Will. Will was captured by Skandians and is with the king’s daughter who is in disguise so she won’t get killed. Horace a friend of Will’s goes with Halt to find Will, but they get captured by a black knight and sent to a castle. Will and Evanlyn get sent to work as slaves but escape with the help of a Skandian. Horace is a brave and experienced knight because he left a castle to go on an adventure, battle many knights and remained calm at the black knight’s castle.
The first proof that Horace is brave is that he left Castle Redmont to go on these dangerous adventures with Halt. He left the castle’s protection and his friends without a source of income to get food and water, to stay at an inn or to provide for any of his other needs.
The second proof that Horace is an experienced knight is the many knights he defeated in battles without getting hurt. He did not need any help from Halt in his battles with any of the knights.
Horace is a brave and experienced knight because he left the castle to go on an adventure, battle many knights and remained calm while captured at the black knights castle. I rate this book four out of five because it was very exciting and I felt scared for Will, Horace and Evanlyn. Just as I have been an outsider, I can identify with Halt and his getting banned. I’ll remember these characters because of the bravery and courage of both Halt and Horace and hope to meet them again in the next book in the series.
