really liked it
bookshelves: autistic-asd-as-character-memoir, historical-fiction, middle-grade

Moose’s big sister has autism, it’s 1935, they live on Alcatraz Island, where their dad is a guard and they are hoping to get Natalie into a special school; all eight years before Kanner and Asperger separately came up with their diagnoses. I really liked this. I liked the time, the setting, San Francisco a short boat ride away, and the time in this family’s life. How they each individually wnated what was best for the sister/ daughter and went about trying to get it for her.
