really liked it
bookshelves: audiobook, borrowed, fiction
Read from January 03 to September 26, 2011

I feel like this should count for two books, given the length. Also, I could convince myself to give it 3 stars or I could convince myself to give it 5 stars, but I had a hell of a time convincing myself to give it 4 stars as a compromise. Still not sure it will keep all four.

I started this book last December; Heather lent it to me because she knew that I was going to be driving cross-country with my dad and she thought that perhaps she could forestall murder and/or mayhem if she gave us an audiobook to concentrate on. (I wasn't actually able to convince my dad to listen to it -- we listed to the first Mary Russell novel instead. I only cried in rage and frustration once during the entire drive, which was a bit of a miracle.)

I am surprised that I read -- and enjoyed -- a book in which I did not like a single major character. Took a while, though.
