The second book (after Pandora's Star) in a sprawling space opera. Wormhole technology has opened the galaxy to routine interstellar exploration and colonization. Biological rejuvenation and advances in information technology have extended and transformed ordinary life. Humanity has begun to encounter alien species. And at least one of these species is unwilling to play nice. Hamilton propels a menagerie of interesting characters, human and otherwise, through thickets of intrigue and into battles domestic, political, and military. For a fan of SF epics, a very satisfying read.
