City of Night (Dean Koontz's Frankenstein, #2)
by Dean Koontz, Ed Gorman
by Dean Koontz, Ed Gorman
With all the parallel stories that are happening in this book, it gets a bit slow-paced at times, but never dull or uninteresting. I recommend reading it in large batches, as the entire span of the book is mere hours of story time.
It's almost as if Koontz read Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" half way through writing the book, as he suddenly identifies the social hierarchy of the "New Race" in terms of alphas, betas, deltas, kappas and gammas, where each is not jealous of the others. Victor's dominance does seem more like "1984" than "Brave New World" though.
It's hard to believe at times that someone as genius as Victor Frankenstein would oversee such a vital part as the mental health of his creations. Even harder to see how it would go unnoticed for 200 years but then a lot of his subjects start to have serious issues at the same time.
That said, with a good suspension of disbelief this book continues the amazing story that is his Frankenstein trilogy. I can't wait to dig into the final book and find out what happens next!
