it was amazing
bookshelves: fiction

I wonder how many times I'll read this book in my lifetime.
Of course, you have to read this book as an allegorical story.

I loved the constant parallelism between the human and animal worlds, just to make the contrast between the 2 sharper. Animals are violent to survive. Humans are sometimes violent just for fun. See the painted bird game.

Beautifully told through the eyes of a young boy. This is important. It has to be narrated by someone who is almost impartial to the violence and makes little judgment so that the reader can witness it firsthand.
There's a lot more I need to get out of this book - maybe next time I read it.
This makes you need to read Voltaire all over again!
