Very Orwellian and very simple but potent. This early novella written by Ayn Rand captures in allegory the philosophic internal needs people crave as individuals alone. To outlaw any individualism or for that matter any concept of "brotherhood" is unsustainable in the end. As humans we to differing degrees crave or need both concepts of separateness or autonomy and unification or organization to be held as sacred in order to preserve what we think of as freedom. The highest form of life on earth will never be limited to that of ant colonies. Humans must have personal autonomy or freedom in order to thrive as a group.
