Giving it a four star review is based upon looking at it through the eye of the teenage male for which it is intended - lots of action, heroes the reader's age, humor appropriate to the target market. As a thirtysomething woman writer, I saw nearly every twist and turn before it came and little came out as a surprise - there were two things that Card did I didn't expect, one that I gave myself a mental slap for missing and the other that actually was a bit of a letdown. I had hoped for something closer to ENDER'S GAME that easily played to YA and adult audiences at once, and this is not that book. As I said, my expectations aside, I think it is well done for the primary audience. However, there were a couple cases where I felt in the Ram sections Card got bogged down in having things overexplained to the lead and yet still felt he needed an author section at the end to re-explain. That's probably my biggest reason for the 4-star review versus a 5, since Card definitely is a capable writer. As someone who holds a deep fascination with time travel stories, I would probably still read the rest.

22.0% "Relatively fast read for a long book, but this one is definitely geared to be more Young Adult than Ender's Game (which gets crossfiled in YA and adult). Interesting premise I am interested in seeing how it plays out."
