Rose has been on the run from Whitney and his breeding program for 8 months, and Kane has been searching unsuccessfully for her. Then Kane’s GhostWalker team is assigned to rescue some cartel hostages, and it turns out that Rose is the informer who provided the information about where they were. The hostages are successfully rescued, but Kane and Rose don’t make it to the helicopter in time, and now they’re on the run from Whitney and from the cartel. And Rose’s baby decides that now is a good time to be born! But how to protect him without going into hiding again?!

“We’re different. We’re always going to be different,” Kane tells Rose. “We have enemies and we can’t pretend them away.” To Rose that also means that Whitney will go on playing his ruthless game, and she’ll just have to be prepared to deal with it. But Kane is slowly convincing Rose that she needs him – in more ways than one – and that his team, his family, are hers also; that she no longer needs to feel alone. Rose justifiably has trust issues, so even trusting Kane was a big deal, and now she’s supposed to trust all these strangers?! Sure, they’re his family, but Rose is just now experiencing the concept of family as support. So they’ll give her some time to realize that together they cancel out each others’ weaknesses. And Rose takes it to heart when Rhianna says, “Being alone is no fun when you know no one has your back.” Family looks out for family, and that’s not a cage, that’s love and protection.
