** spoiler alert ** I was really impressed by the world building. About half the book takes place in the present day and the rest is about a century later. It reminded me a little of The Handmaiden's Tale in that some sections started with parts of papers from a far future conference on the events currently taking place in the second half of the book.

The world described in the second half of the book is an interesting one. Humans exist in very small groups with strict rules to keep the vampires at bay. And these are definitely the gross bloodsucking vampires, not the sparkling ones.

I'm really looking forward to the next book in the trilogy.
