I really wanted to like this book more, but the author's uber-language-y style just got in the way, and there was absolutely no mystery or surprise to it at all. In fact the "mystery" aspect of the plot was cliched, awkward and predictable, not to mention nearly lost in all the other (sometimes) extraneous details. After a while the back-and-forth-in-time flow began to feel choppy and annoying. Mr. Morrow is a lovely wordsmith--his descriptions of the countryside and the small island where this story took place were powerfully evocative--I just felt like he was trying to do too much.
