I enjoyed this book, part of the Highland Series by Karen Marie Moning, this is book 2. I have not yet read book 1 but this story stands alone quite well.

Gavrael McIllioch hides a secret that terrifies him - he is a Berserker. When he is extremely angry or the sight of blood tap supernatural strengths within him and risk him spinning out of control into violent mayhem, over the years he has learned to control the Berserker in him for most of the time. Something happened when he was 14 and he ran away from home thinking his father was a madman and he so his father was not able to explain what being a Berserker is.

He's known Jillian St Claire since her family took him in when he was 16, but even she doesn't know his real name or story. He has been known as Grimm Roderick for years. Through a peculiar ruse, the couple is thrown together and their childhood hair-pulling, insult-trading is shown to be a thin disguise for true love. Gavrael pushes Jillian away with his actions because he is afraid he'll turn on her.

Through it all though Jillian continue to love him and somewhere along the way she realized that Grimm loves her too.
