Late, Late at Night
by Rick Springfield
by Rick Springfield
I reserved this book in advance of publication because I was so excited about reading it. I have loved Rick Springfield's music since I was a little girl. I have seen him in concert many times and have met him on several occasions. I was anxious to read about his life before he became famous, and about his life with his family today.
I could not put it down. Not only did I read the book for myself, but I also listened to Rick read the audio version. It is an intense book from start to finish. Springfield takes the reader from his childhood in Australia to his teen years in England, from his time entertaining the troops in Vietnam to his bold move to the United States, and from his time as an 80's heart throb on General Hospital and MTV to his life today as husband and father.
I have to admit that even though I am a longtime fan I learned things about Springfield that I never knew or even imagined. There is so much more to him than people give him credit for. He is a deep soul and writes extensively about his lifelong struggle with depression, his salvation through music, and the choices that he has made (both good and bad) that have led him to where he is today.
Springfield's voice as an author is honest, and although some of it is a reflection about insecurity, depression and unexpected paths, it really becomes a story about redemption and love.
