This book was one of my mother's favorites. She also loved "The Magnificent Obsession" by the same author. I personally really liked the story and the thought provoking ideas that were presented. The history, though not completely accurate was also very interesting. The author is a really good writer, though maybe a little too verbose. It was fun testing my vocabulary a little bit. The only thing I found lacking were the "conversions" in this story. They seemed to be based totally on the characters hearing and processing the acts performed by Christ, missing the far more important conversion of the spirit. Still, the book had me thinking a lot more of what it really would have been like to live during the time of Christ and immediately after his resurrection. The actual book I read was probably from one of the first printings (1942), as it was my mothers well-loved and well-read copy.
