When I started this book, I was NOT in the mood for it. But I seriously tried to give it a fair assessment as I read. Trevor has been trying to get me to open up to the Star Wars book world for years...
My final assessment: I may decide to read more of these when I have nothing else better in mind.
Pro: Luke's character development. He is so much cooler than the movies make him seem. Especially now that he's a real Jedi. He has much deeper feelings than you'd expect.
Con: Tons of spacey terminology that includes starships and TIE fighters, technology, and worlds, that isn't explained as well as it should be because you're supposed to already know a lot about Star Wars. I wasn't completely lost. But it did lack a lot of the exposition that would normally occur because most readers would already know EXACTLY what a TIE fighter looks like. Or EXACTLY what a star destroyer looks like. I sort of just made up a lot of stuff in my mind.
Pro: Kashyyyk. It was much cooler than I was expecting. The Wookies also.
Con: Leia and Han seemed very flat for most of the book. Not until about 3/4 of the way through did I really start connecting to either of them.
Pro: I like the idea of Mara Jade working for the Emperor in the movies. She is super interesting.
