** spoiler alert ** "Hull Zero Three" is really good. It starts out as a survival story and a mystery, not unlike the movie "Pandorum", where the main character gets dropped into a hostile environment with no idea what happened to him, and tries to figure out what is going on. But then it gets more and more weird, in a good way.

There are quite a number of common and not so common sf tropes woven into the plot, some of them nicely subverted. The one I liked best *SPOILERS* was the idea of an alien invasion using genetically engineered organisms custom built for deadliness, only here with humans doing the invading, which also made for very interesting monsters. A great book to close out the year.
