Halo: Cryptum

I have always been a Halo fan since its release in 2001. Since then I have always wanted to know the story of the Forerunners. They were always so mysterious, and their installations and structures seemed remarkably awesome. And finally, I am fortunate to know how the Halos really came to be...
What can I say? I started the book with the expectation that nobody could create such a fantastic story around the Forerunners because of their previous mysteriousness. Boy was I wrong. Greg Bear nailed this story.
Bornstellar's character grows so much, from being a typical Manipular, to literally becoming the Didact himself. His experiences throughout the book make him who he becomes.
The technology implemented into the story was also flabbergasting. Calling up furniture in your house whenever you need it, ships changing shape for better speed, agility, or power... armor that would allow you to live for years if you were stranded by recycling body waste (not an original idea, but still a cool concept)... and having an "ancilla" to inform you about anything at any time...
I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
