Read in June, 2007

miranda july is the best literary thing that happened to me in 2007. some people criticize that the voice in all of her stories sounds shockingly similar and that may be so, but it is certainly a voice shaped by hurt, by longing, and wanting to connect- of trying or trying to try or giving up on trying- and each story rings with this beautiful pain (but so very often also with so much celebration). the voice is human and is written for humans. "something that needs nothing" took my breath away, and there was no story in the collection that i found to be disappointing.
