This book is dreadful. I rarely abandon books, but I gave up on this one on page 154 after the narrator switched from past to present tense within the same paragraph, which was just the last straw for me. I tried so hard to like it, but the protagonist is not funny, the characters are straight out of Central Casting, the narrative structure is illogical, and the writing is full of boring exposition: "Aside from background research, the databases can also be used to locate an individual whose whereabouts are unknown. Acquiring a Social Security Number is the key to this task. It is the holy grail of the PI world. But Social Security numbers are not public record...." (This lecture takes up most of an early page in the book. Yawn.)

Somewhere there is a mystery to be solved, but I can't find it buried in the lists of ex-boyfriends and poorly written narratives about the protagonist's past and present delinquent escapades, all of which make her quite proud, and none of which add to the story. Ugh ugh ugh. I'm just glad I got this book from the library and didn't pay good money for it.
