really liked it

Even if you haven't spent much time in the desert, Edward Abbey does a great job of describing the landscape so that you can almost see it yourself. While a little much at times, he is very candid about the typical American tourist mentality as well as the people who don't appreciate nature for anything other than how they can profit from it. I definitely respect his opinion as he is seeing it first hand. The exchange between him and a group of tourists on pages 233-234 had me laughing out loud. I actually read it to my boyfriend. I think instead of being such a critic he could have done more to teach people the error of their ways.

Keith This looks good - I read "The Monkey Wrench Gang" - was a great book, especially if you have even a "smidgen" of anti-establishment in ya!

Kate I loved this book! He made me appreciate the desert and see it as beautiful, instead of barren.
