If you only buy one systematic theology in your life, make it this one. I'd say Calvin's Institutes as well. However, if you are not Reformed/Calvinistic then Oden is the way to go. Oden's methodology is to find the areas of consensus among patristic, medieval, and modern theologians to develop a consensual theology of tradition. Brilliant work and highly informative. It is my "go to" when I need answers on theological questions. Includes engagements with science, theodicy, Trinitarian thinking, etc. Great work.
