Surprisingly, this classic of western literature is pretty good. I first read it a very long time ago and didn't remember much except for the titular crime and a vague idea that psychological punishment was involved. I also remember a vague feeling that there was a lot of faffing about with characters and plot points that were unrelated to crime or punishment.

Maybe I'm more patient now, or maybe I don't take titles so literally anymore, but I enjoyed the breadth of the novel much more this time through. I would still not rate it with The Brothers Karamazov or the best of Tolstoy, but I will certainly look to reread it at some point.
