Lenny and Mel are brothers whose parents decide they need something to do after school and so they insist the boys get involved with an after-school club. They boys end up reporting on all the after-school clubs for the school newspaper so that they can write about each club and let the students know about what is available. Each week the boys will visit a different club and report on it. The boys meet a sweaty new gym teacher, get involved in a debate over school uniforms (and capes), try to determine what the "glee" club really does, meet a very strange and scary teacher who runs the poetry club, and other interesting things. Their reports on each club are very witty.
This is a great book for young boys, reluctant readers, and those who have enjoyed Dav Pilkey's Captain Underpants series. Readers may also want to try The Legend of Spud Murphy by Erin Colfer.
